Robert Lowth Conference

The English Project is hosting a conference to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the birth of Robert Lowth, a scholar of Winchester College, a Bishop of London, and one of the eighteenth century’s most influential grammarians. He was the celebrated author of A Short Introduction to the English Language (1762). To commemorate the anniversary, the conference will include a series of papers about Lowth, his work on grammar, his biography of William of Wykeham and his childhood home in the Cathedral Close in Winchester.
